G. Arnell Williams is a professor of mathematics at San Juan College, who has dedicated his career to honing the audacious goal of kindling an appreciation and deeper understanding of mathematics, especially in those who have found frustration with the subject from traditional approaches.
His methods involve more spirited, broad and unified approaches to teaching mathematics which he believes is an essential requirement for effectively reaching a wider range of audiences.
He is also an avid photographer, who loves viewing great images of other photographers (‘a marvelous source of inspiration’).
Whatever the endeavor—be it mathematics, science, photography, history, etc—he loves reading and sharing the inspiring and informative thoughts of others.
He is the author of two books for the layperson: Algebra the Beautiful: An Ode to Math’s Least-Loved Subject (Basic Books, 2022) and How Math Works: A Guide to Grade School Arithmetic for Parents and Teachers (Rowman and Littlefield, 2013).
He holds degrees in physics from California State University at Long Beach and mathematics from Yale University.
